HyperG’s featured product - Amazing Thor VDI solution, providing enterprises with safe and flexible epidemic prevention office tools
Due to the spreading of COVID-19, many enterprises started to actively evaluate the implementation of the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in order to maintain business operation and keep employee productivity going, hoping they are able to ensure the safety and health of employees and the security of sensitive data, while realizing flexible office modes.
Taking advantage of the emerging of the VDI trend, besides some of the commercial products that were already very popular, there are also other emerging solutions that are listed as selections by enterprises and are actively trying to win the favor of enterprises. The “Amazing Thor Smart Secure Office” (hereinafter referred to as AT) launched by the subsidiary of Gamania CloudForce – HyperG, is one of the cases that attracted a lot of attention. This is because its construction cost is affordable, installation steps are simple and has customized development so it allows even greater flexibility. It also has delicate information security control functions that were never seen before on other VDI products that can allow information leaking risks to be reduced to a minimum. It has caught a lot of attention from many international enterprises on the market already.
Unified deployment and maintenance of VDI reduces management loads of traditional PC
The truth is, Amazing Thor not only contains short-term epidemic prevention subjects, it can also bring sustainable operation for enterprises for long-term profits. In response to traditional PC architectures, enterprises were always worried about information security issues including internal thieves, hackers and viruses etc.; also, according to the statistics from Gartner, enterprises has to spend a high amount of NTD $5,000 each year for each PC as the hidden cost for PC management, maintenance and electricity. The longer the time, the more PCs there are, and the greater the amount.
HyperG’s technical support consultant Ya-Chen Kao stated that AT is based on VDI and uses private cloud for centralized saving and managing of all information and provides unified service performance to all terminals. Terminal users login to the AT environment using their personal account and password to get a dedicated virtual desktop, and use viewer mode to execute I/O and display operations. The operating system, application programs, setting files and each file data needed are stored centrally on the AT server, achieving data not falling onto ground and extranet isolation. Even if the terminal was infected by a virus, it will not spread to the backstage; this can ensure information security even more.
Also, MIS only needs to maintain and manage the backstage server, and then use the unified AT dashboard interface with the preset motherboard to respond to the needs of all departments and employees. Quickly create large amounts of VDI, and centralized control can be used to control all VDIs later, achieving unified updates and upgrades and flexible resource distribution. It no longer has to be like in the past where users had to run around to maintain, reinstall, change specifications and solve virus problems individually for PCs, reducing the IT workload significantly.
When we look at the entire AT architecture, it includes multiple management mechanisms including connection server, monitor server, control server and node server; they can be installed centrally on a single physical host. Whether end users are logging in from the intranet or extranet, they only need to pass authentication by the connection server to access VDI environment and services; they can even further use the node server to bridge virtual switches to satisfy online needs.
Several special security control functions that differentiate niche
More importantly, HyperG AT is not only equipped with the functions that average VDI products should have, such as dynamic expansion or reduced terminal CPU, or the hot-swappable feature of RAM resources, many other exclusive information security functions are also provided. Ya-Chen Kao indicated that first of all, screenshot permissions can be controlled from remote locations; even if someone without authorization executed the screen shot function, all they can capture is a completely black screen. Secondly, it supports the watermark function; users can add warnings such as “confidential data; do not leak” etc., or input the employee number so that these texts will go across the entire screen and be on the uppermost layer, achieving warning and identification results and preventing information from being stolen.
“Bitmap watermark” is also provided to use as tracking code; in case someone leaked confidential files, administrators just need to pick up their phones, point it to the screen of the file and take a photo, and the tracking code hidden inside will appear, analyzing which computer the information was leaked from. With this set of mechanisms, even if someone used the screen capturing function of the communication software to steal and leak confidential information, they will not be able to hide themselves.
Next is the USB permission control function Administrators can assign different permissions to individual users; some users can read and write, some can read but cannot write, and some cannot read nor write. It is so detailed that even if someone has permission to use USB, they can only use specific USB devices to avoid causing virus infection or information leakage. Fact is, it is not only USB; even if it is a printer or other external equipment (such as headphones and microphones) or card readers, they can all be implemented and controlled using the same method.
“What’s even more special is that AT supports USB virtualization to make it easier for file-sharing.” This was the example Ya-Chen Kao gave. If someone wants to share a 5GB file to five colleagues, in past practices, the USB must be plugged and unplugged five times to execute Save As, it was quite troublesome. Under the AT environment, five copies of the file could be made at the backstage, and then mounted to the VDI of the five target objects one after another to quickly achieve the purpose of sharing. Ya-Chen Kao stressed that average VDI solutions do not support reading of physical USBs. Thanks to the exclusive patented technology, HyperG was able to realize this unique function.
The advantages of AT are not only displayed on the information security level, but also on construction and deployment. Enterprises can usually complete the installation of an AT server within a day; it is even easier for the AT client. Once users know how to install LINE, they will be able to apply similar experiences to complete the installation by clicking Next after Next without having to refer to the user guide. As for other VDI client programs, they usually require dozens of complicated steps before installation could be completed. In addition, the total construction cost of AT is only about half the cost for other general VDI products.
Furthermore, general VDI products have fixed functions; customizations cannot be made in response to additional requirements; but AT provides great flexibility for customizations and modifications. For example, there was a user who asked to immediately display a black screen when disconnected and did not remain at the previous operating screen, and there was another user to asked to automatically log out of VDI when disconnected, or use hotkeys to close VDI and reduce the chance for interested parties to spy on secrets. There were all kinds of requests and HyperG’s development team was able to satisfy all of their needs.
Ya-Chen Kao summarized that HyperG’s AT solution can bring multiple benefits including quick deployment, reduced cost, reduced MIS workload and strengthened information security etc. Another thing worth mentioning is that the product promotion range set by HyperG is not only Taiwan but also includes overseas markets in Southeast Asia etc., and that is why it strived to create international technical specifications. In terms of AT, it took two years to acquire the three patent certificates “System for monitoring cloud server events,” “Cloud database management system,” and “Control system for executing access devices” to continue to shape differentiated competitive advantages. HyperG welcomes enterprises to use the following service Email: to actively propose AT testing needs to let HyperG accompany enterprises to get through this wave of epidemic testing.
