As two different services that support VPC intercommunication, the main differences between cloud connection services and VPC peering are as follows:

  • (1) In terms of intercommunication capability, VPC peering only supports two-to-two VPC intercommunication within a region, and cloud connection service supports the intercommunication of multiple VPCs within the same region as well as the intercommunication of multiple VPCs across regions.
  • (2) In terms of main network capabilities, after VPC peering is created, routing must be configured manually in order to realize VPC intercommunication; but with cloud connection services, after the network instance is loaded, routing is configured automatically to complete the network connection.
  • (3) In terms of carrying networks, the carrying network of VPC peering is based on data center networks (DCN), and the carrying network of cloud connection service is based on data center interconnect (DCI).
  • (4) In terms of charging strategies, VPC peering is free, and the cloud connection service that supports intercommunication between multiple VPCs within the same region is also free; however, the cloud connection service that supports intercommunication between multiple VPCs across regions requires purchasing bandwidth packages and configuring bandwidth between regions in order to realize intercommunication.
